With cloud computing revolutionising many aspects of IT infrastructure, some cloud pioneers such as Peter Hinssen have made claims that the technology could even go so far as to "remove the CIO from the board table."
One cloud expert has made the case in favour of service-oriented architecture (SOA), stating that cloud computing shares a common background with traditional IT systems and can work effectively alongside them.
Neil Ward-Dutton of CIO UK Magazine has explained that cloud computing platforms working to deliver software functionality are conceptually similar to the software service delivery platforms of SOA initiatives, stating: "From an application and data integration standpoint, too, the principles of SOA shine through Cloud Computing very strongly indeed."
