In the last several weeks, Microsoft, IBM, BEA, CompuWare and Borland, among others, have all shipped new tools and/or extensions to help Java and .NET developers move their skill sets "up the stack" to better model their applications and include business logic in their application logic.
Microsoft has new syntax-abstraction tools for migrating Java code to C#. It also will target higher-level process/business rules development with its next BizTalk Server release. For it's part, IBM has begun to release a new generation of Java-based adapters that include business logic. BEA continues to find ways to apply VB-like GUIs to J2EE app server development for both application and business logic. Borland and CompuWare, among a growing list of other leading tools vendors, say that modeling has a role in discrete departmental development tools.
