A fresh round of reports hints that Google's long-awaited online data storage service, dubbed "Gdrive," is closer to launch.
Though details are sketchy, Google's GOOG offering likely will let users easily save, fetch and share their files from Internet-connected computers anywhere.
Think of the possibilities: You could save a copy of that Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) Word file online and edit the document at home -- without having to carry around a thumb drive or mail it to your home e-mail account. And you could even make it available for co-workers to view or edit.
Fortunately, you don't have to wait around for Google.
A variety of Web-based services offer online storage now, with copious amounts of free storage and easy sharing options.
