Energy markets might be something you'd expect to see on the floor of a busy exchange somewhere, preferably with lots of people shouting at each other and making funny hand gestures. But post deregulation, the idea of buying energy from wholesale markets has become more widespread and the trend is only likely to continue given the increasing price of power.
But look inside the average corporation, and there is a surprising lack of liquidity. A company uses energy, and the facilities department pays the bill. That's it. Some more forward-looking companies may wheel and deal on some pricing when sourcing their energy from an external supplier, but that's about as far as it goes.
