Photoshop publisher Adobe is taking aim at Google's online office suite with the acquisition of a web-based word processor.
On Monday, Adobe will announce the purchase of Virtual Ubiquity, the Massachusetts-based publisher of a fancy online word processor called Buzzword. Terms of the acquisition will not be announced.
Analysts think the word processor is the first in a series of web-connected office productivity tools from Adobe, best known for Photoshop, InDesign and other software for designers and creative professionals.
"We're seeing a new foundation being laid for Adobe brick by brick," says Melissa Webster, and IDC analyst. "It's a long-term thing Adobe is starting here."
