SQL Reporting Services was first released with SQL Server 2000. It’s a server-based solution that enables the authoring, management, and delivery of reports. Through SQL Reporting Services, businesses can produce reports with design tools that use the XML-based industry standard, Report Definition Language. Published and managed as Web services, Report definitions enable users to view reports in a web browser, via email or other formats.
SQL Server 2005 Reporting Services also provides a richer developer experience and enhances management options. Through Visual Studio 2005 integration, developers have a common design environment for authoring reports and freely redistributable Report Viewer controls facilitate embedding reports into ASP.NET applications.
