In part one of this article, we tapped work from AMR Research to present a definition of the service-oriented architecture (SOA) and analyze its components. Now we're going to take a closer look at the expected benefits of SOA as described by the companies (including those who are currently implementing SOA plus those who plant to do so) AMR surveyed.
Here's the breakdown:
Faster and more flexible reconfiguration of business processes: 48 percent.
Decrease of operational costs of IT: 28 percent.
Secure and reliable service levels: 15 percent.
Implementing upgrades and product enhancements on the fly: 5 percent.
Seamless plug and play of different technology providers and/or custom legacy code: 3 percent.
