webMethods, Inc., a
leading business integration software company, today announced its
contributions to three Web services specification recommendations recently
published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) that address improving the
performance of Web services. webMethods has been a member of the W3C since
1997 and continues to actively participate in numerous working groups within
the organization that improve the development, usability and performance of
XML and Web services.
As a member of the W3C Web Services Description Working Group, webMethods
contributed to the development and editing of three recent recommendations:
XML-binary Optimized Packaging (XOP), Message Transmission Optimization
Mechanism (MTOM), and Resource Representation SOAP Header Block (RRSHB).
These recommendations are expected to significantly improve Web services
performance.
One of the biggest technical and performance issues for Web services
occurs when a user or application is handling data that consists of two
different formats, such as information with photographs. These types of
situations can slow down applications, at times to unacceptable levels. XOP,
MTOM and RRSHB work with the SOAP 1.2 standard to provide appropriate methods
and mechanisms for transmitting multi-part data, enabling more efficient and
faster message processing.
